Coin-Op

Bio

Coin-Op are...

  • Nick Hills - vocals, guitar, keyboards
  • Matt Leuw - vocals, guitar
  • Craig Robbins - bass
  • Matt Cooper - drums
This is Coin-Op the rock 'n' roll band.

Coin-Op is comprised of slot jockeys Nick Hills, Matt Leuw, Craig Robbins and Matt Cooper - four bright young things who currently reside in Brighton.

Back in February, fierce panda stumbled across Coin-Op in the classic A&R fashion, ie half-drunk on a Wednesday night at the Dublin Castle in Camden Town. Since then the cranky, cool Coin-Op have embarked upon a whirlwind of activity which as seen them tear through the UK underground.

Before Coin-Op had even released their debut single, 'Democracies', in June 2002, the track had been chosen by MTV Europe to appear as the theme tune for new music show The Fridge and had recorded an Xfm session. Before Coin-Op had released their second single, 'Southpaw', in July 2002 they had been hand-picked to play the Pepe / Coca-Cola Tour in Spain in September. Before Coin-Op had even found their feet they were in Maida Vale studio recording sessions for John Peel and Steve Lamacq's Evening Session - on the same day.

Fair play, too: articulate and intense, Coin-Op happily make art/rock/punk/pop that shimmies and mutates like Clinic playing twister with really, really early Blur. Their live forays have thus far snagged slots with the likes of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Bellrays, The Parkinsons, British Sea Power, Electrelane, Bobby Conn and Easyworld. And, rather splendidly, they have a plan: to release three singles and a mini-album in super quick time. 'Democracies' was step one. 'Southpaw' is step two. The mini-album itself - due in October - is step three. And the third single, 'The Curve' (out in early 2003) is the final step on the first flight.

And then? And then things will get serious...
