Logan [defunct]

Bio

The whole idea of 'a band' came about in August 2000 when Dan and Jody exchanged phone numbers (if Jody writing his number on the inside of Dan's coat qualifies as that) over a couple of beers at a jazz gig at The Sophbeck Sessions in Cambridge. Neither was committed to a band but both were made aware of each other's existence and musical 'availability' through mutual friends (thanks to Fran and Thellie).

Sometime in the early part of 2001, Paul joined as lead guitarist. After a few decent jam sessions, it finally dawned on them that a drummer was pretty imperative at this point. Dan took a trip down to Cambridge's Drum and Guitar Centre to place an ad and met a guy next to him in the queue looking for a band. Kismet. A practice was organised. And it worked.

The band's name at this point was 'Spadeface', after a small disagreement in the pub that summer on how Emma Bunton inherited her looks. Paul had suggested that it was something to do with being struck by a garden implement. Spadeface's first gig took place on 4th January 2002, a 21st birthday party at the Pitt Club, Cambridge. It went well. And they were very drunk.

Spadeface's first public appearance was at The Boatrace, Cambridge on 23rd January 2002, as headlining act (purely on a promise of bringing a large audience) at one of The Band Agency nights. The sound was great, the audience were great, and so too, luckily, were the band.

The October before, Dan had turned 30 years of age, and during the summer, his mum had suggested a band name of 'Logan', after the 1976 film Logan's Run. It was greeted with open arms.
