Purple Monkey

Bio

Purple Monkey, apparently, were formed in April 2001 in a chicken shed “by a drunk hairy hobo named Perkins”, who allaegedly wanted a supergroup who could write and perform music which gave him more satisfaction than the superficial mess that was and still is the British charts.

Consisting of Luke, Dan, Steve and Bone on guitar, bass, vocals and drums respectively, the band are not strangers to West Croydon’s legendary Cartoon venue, although they are hoping to take their furious brand of abrasive, shouty punk further afield in the near future.

What is the most unique thing about your band?

The fact that individually we are shit, but as Purple Monkey we are… Well you make your own mind up!

What has been your biggest inspiration (musical or otherwise)?

(Steve) Everyday life; (Luke) girls; (Dan) late night B-movies; (Bone) pissing outdoors.

What other bands do you sound like?

Shit ones!

What’s your attitude towards mainstream music at the moment?

I think we prefer terrorism and world hunger!

How does the band go about writing its songs?

Someone will normally bring a verse or chorus to the practice, then everyone else will spend about 20 minutes laughing at them and saying how crap it is, then the next session we start work on it.

How would you describe your band’s sound?

It depends – if you have your stereo on quite low we are pretty quiet, but if you have it cranked right up we are as loud as fuck with a twist of lemon!

Anything else you want to tell us?

Quit first, that way you never fail!
