Smokehand

Bio

From their press release:

Smokehand are a 4-piece 'Dark Loungecore' combo.

The band have been described in the UK press as "like Scott Walker singing Tom Waits and Nick Cave songs".

Unashamedly eclectic, they exploit jazz, Latino, classical and pop influences to create a post-modern Film Noir soundtrack that is one minute sinister, the next, Sinatra. Dark and brooding, this is the voice of the real musical underground calling up from a Parisian cellar bar or seedy, city tenement block.

One could suggest that their songs could be taken straight from the pages of a crime novel, but instead the band evoke the less-seen side of the urban underworld-beneath the rakish, seedy characters with the guns, glamour and girls, there's the kind of loneliness, danger and desperation of a tortured soul. The songs are works of fragile beauty, but it's a dark, dark, world that Smokehand inhabit.
