The Sound Movement

Bio

The Sound Movement’s repertoire consists of material written across 4 major cities: Melbourne, Tokyo, Manchester and London.

Formed in 2001, inspired and brought together by music that is dark and melodic, Andrew Day and longtime collaborator/ co-writer, Kat Johnston set about crafting their own sound. After a series of personnel changes and recruiting drummer Josh Gross, the band made the decision to relocate from Melbourne, Australia.

The first half of 2004 was spent in living and existing Tokyo, before relocating to Manchester and finally battling their way to London.

Five of the songs written on their travels appear on their debut album Ichi Go Ichi E (translated as One Meeting, One Chance).

The artwork for the kanji symbol of Ichi Go Ichi E was a gift from their friend Hisashi Meguro and the band has since adopted this poignant Japanese saying as their logo.

The Sound Movement has added the talents of a new 2nd guitarist, Londoner, Tom Parkinson, combining the experiences of time, place and travel in their collective musical expression. If you're into the intensity of any of the following artists, then you're apparently going to love it. Think, Stone Roses, The Sundays, The Cure, The Smiths, Sisters of Mercy, Ride, Swervedriver, Tears for Fears and The Chameleons.

“A wonderful mix of early Bunnymen meets Ride coupled with a dash of The Church” - Music Week, Sept 2004

“Rarely can a band pull off the darker pop vibe of the 80s without sounding bland or pointless. The Sound Movement seem to have taken the sound of that era and moulded it into their own liking – crafting interesting cuts that sound wholly modern as well as retro” - Beat Magazine (Aust), Feb 2004

Andrew Day – guitar/mandolin/ vocals
Kat Johnston – bass guitar
