Uncle Fritz

Bio

Uncle Fritz is just one of the alter egos belonging to 24-year-old Fraser Stewart, a talented musician (and painter) hailing from the Scottish city of Dundee. Since releasing his debut LP Nine Songs through Pet Piranha Records in 2005, Uncle Fritz's music has been met with critical acclaim from the Scottish underground scene and led to appearances at Aberdeen’s GoNorth and Glasgow’s Musicworks festivals.

Laying bare a fascination with the nastier things in life, the songs of Uncle Fritz focus upon such subject matters as murder, hate, drug addiction, isolation and physical violence, but are delivered in beautifully delicate melodies, creating an intimate and somewhat chilling atmosphere for the listener. It’s definitely for fans of veiled darkness previously employed by the likes of Elliott Smith, Red House Painters and Nick Drake.

Though gigging is infrequent he has shared line-ups with an impressive array of acts, including Scot victory rockers Laeto, the folky Foxface, fellow Dundonians The Hazey Janes, Thomas Traux, Son Of Dave, Jana Hunter, Viking Moses, Frank Turner (ex-Million Dead) and Hobotalk.

The sporadic nature of his live work can be explained by the time spent in two highly-regarded bands, playing bass in the angular power trio Alamos and fronting hardcore metal crew Perineum.
