Friday feeling: The Take-Away Shows
Friday feeling: The Take-Away Shows
JoeDiddly by Luke Slater September 26th, 2008

Isn't the internet brilliant? La Blogotheque's brilliant Take-Away Shows is too but we hadn't fully realised just how brilliant until today. The Francophones amongst you may know it as Concerts A Emporter. Luke Slater investigates

Now, some, if not all of you will be familiar with London's Black Cab Sessions, but the Take-Away Shows were here first (so ner!), and in any case, it's hard for anything to rival the spontaneous brilliance that some of the Take-Away shows offer - see Architecture In Helsinki for that, below. The premise is quite simple: Bands, or part of bands, wander around urban, suburban, rural and commercial areas showcasing their wares to whoever happens to be about.

An absolutely astounding quantity and quality of artists have performed their own Take-Away Show since The Spinto Band were the first such band to feature, way back in April 2006.

The shows now number over 100, but here's a few of our favourites.

Architecture In Helsinki - 'Heart It Races'

Marissa Nadler - 'Fifty Five Falls'

Grizzly Bear - 'Shift'

There's an absolute shed-load more available (including Bodies of Water who play our stage at Concrete & Glass next week), so yeah, check 'em out 'cos they're really good and that.
