Spotifriday #96 - This week on DiS as a playlist ft. EMA, Suede, Gold Panda + more
Spotifriday #96 - This week on DiS as a playlist ft. EMA, Suede, Gold Panda + more
JoeDiddly by Luke Slater June 24th, 2011

This week's Spotifriday playlist featuring The Horrors, Three Trapped Tigers, Timber Timbre and some other bands whose names do NOT begin with "T". Click here to listen to it and read a brief description of WHY they are included below. Please?

1. Suede - 'She's In Fashion'

The London Suede are in the process of remastering and reissuing what seems like their entire back catalogue. This may very well be the case. Or perhaps not. Either way, there's some remasters and the latest two came around for review this week. Head Music here and A New Morning here.

2. EMA - 'The Grey Ship'

It is said that Erika M Anderson, aka EMA, is descended from Erik Bloodaxe. Now, this is a bold claim but it may very well be true and it also may be why she is singing about things like ships an' that, directly or indirectly. She announced a bunch of tour dates earlier this week.

3. Timber Timbre - 'Creep On Creepin' On'

This was Single of The Week. Wendy Roby sayeth: "had you not heard Taylor Kirk’s voice, had you missed out on his wonderfully creepy blues, filled as it is with hoards of bad Adams and damned Eves (and all of them deliciously godless), you would definitely need to know that they ‘permeate listeners with an appreciation for a retro-feel aesthetic’. I love ‘permeate listeners with an appreciation for a retro-feel aesthetic’ because it is basically saying ‘this shit sounds old’. And I love old shit."

4. Chad Valley - 'Acker Bilk'

The name of this title recalls, of course, Acker Bilk. But it also recalls the Jazz Club sketch from The Fast Show. Which is a better force for cultural good? I'm not sure. Anyway, Chad Valley's Equitorial Ultravox got 8/10 from us this week.

5. Woods - 'Hand It Out'

Canadians Woods also got their album reviewed this week. It's called Sun & Shade and is not quite as high-scoring as Chad Valley's one but it still did pretty well.

6. Melvins - 'Dog Island'

The Melvins are STILL going. This is not a bad thing, especially if they keep releasing good albums. It's welcome. We don't want them to go away, they are a constant. Sugar Daddy Live was another record which was received favourably this week.

7. Blanck Mass - 'Sifted Gold'

Blanck Mass is one half of Fuck Buttons. I'm not sure what the superfluous "c" in "Blanck" is for, but I'm certain there has to be a proper reason behind it. Again, it was another album that scored highly this week. Enjoy it.

8. Three Trapped Tigers - 'Noise Trade'

I think Noise Trade is a pretty fair description of what Three Trapped Tigers do, and do incredibly well. Their new record is called Route One Or Die and they gave us a walk-through guide to it earlier in the week. You call it a track-by-track guide, also.

9. Eurythmics - 'Sweet Dreams'

Here is Dave Stewart's Guide to the perfect martini. Do take his advice.

10. Gold Panda - 'I'm With You But I'm Lonely'

An excellent track title for an excellent track. Gold Panda unleashed some new material on us. It's a track called 'MPB'. But there are also some new tour dates coming up, too.

11. The Horrors - 'Sea Within A Sea'

Here are some wonderful photos of The Horrors at York Hall from the other day. I mean here.
