Bargain Hunt (Sans Mullet!)
Bargain Hunt (Sans Mullet!)
rubbafish by Colin Weston July 31st, 2002
If you are like me you always look for a bargain CD. Not necessarily the strictly limited edition 3-track 1" fan club only single for sale at your back street CD store, but bands you loved despite their kitch factor and as for other people... well, they kinda missed the point. Apart from the obvious places like charity shops and second hand stores (Cash Converters especially) there is also rich pickings to be had via the net. Contained within are some of the places I have found and bought new and used CD's from over the past 2 years or so.

musictz.com - A site that has definetly grown since I joined it. Basic idea is you list all the stuff you don't want from your collection and build up a database of stuff you DO want. Simple huh? Many rich pickings to be had here as you can barter with real people (I have recieved 6 CD's in exchange for 3 in the past) however you run the risk of being ripped off but I believe in taking the risk, especially when U.S promos are available! Mainly American orientated BUT there are more then a fair few Brits on there. Also has sister sites for Books, Computer Games and movies. A must see!

Colin Rating (out of 5): ****

Brassneck Music - One of the most amazingly cheap UK sites I have found to date. Full of promos with bands ranging from The Prodigy to Pulp to *gasp* Zig & Zag. Prices range from 20p upto £3 (1 bargain to be had is a single of the Chilli Peppers classic 'Under The Bridge' for 80p) and spend over £10 and get a 10% discount! Downside is that all stock is on a first come, first served basis and many stock items are limited to only one copy but still worth checking out.

Track Attack - A great site in it's own right but I am going to focus on the sale section. If indie is your thing, this is a great place to start! Items such as Che Records split 7" are available from 50p while artists including The Wildhearts, China Drum, Addict & Bis have a choice selection of their 7" back catalouge with prices from 50p upto £1.95. Pleanty of bargains will keep you going back for more!

Second Spin - My fave online CD store EVER. First thing, yes it is American so postage prices should be taken into account but with prices THIS low, it is worth it. CD singles and albums in the $0.99 bargain bin include Amen's 'Price Of Reality' & Bloodhound Gang's superb 'Along Comes Mary' U.S single among the gems! In addition, if you have a region-free DVD player (not that we promote such items, but JUST in case), you can pick up some great bargains. Orders are usually recieved within the fortnight and in good condition. Superb site!

Well, I hope this article was in some way informative (and pound saving) and that you can pick up as many bargains as I have in the past. SHOP ON!!!
