Nuclear Fish! are supporting 'The Warlocks' on their national tour, later this month. DiS caught up with Barry from the band to see how they're getting on.

Where did you get your band name from?
I think it comes from trying to think of a cool and recognisable/memorable name whilst watching The Simpsons!

How would you describe your music to the uneducated?
Hmm, I've always found it hard to describe our stuff - I usually tell people to go to www.nuclear-fish.co.uk and listen to the Mp3s there. Someone once described us as "Kinetic Rock" - I liked that.

What makes you different to other metal bands on the scene?
Wow, we've never really been seen as a metal band before - thanks! We don't sound like any other bands - we just try to be honest and present something that's uniquely "us" in our songs.

What would we expect at one of your live shows?
Noise, harmony, jumping, falling, running, energy: a feast for the eyes and ears! We want to entertain a crowd, give people something to watch as well as listen to.

And what should we expect on your up and coming recordings?
Big fat riffs, thought provoking lyrics, catchy tunes, and (hopefully) some infectious, fist in the air type sing-alongs.

What are your influences?
All good sincere music, from Foo Fighters to Green Day, Radiohead to Machine Head, Metallica to Ben Folds, not forgetting Feeder (who we supported in 2001 at their Bristol show!), the Wildhearts, and RHCP of course.

Any new bands that you think I should be looking out for?
There are some great bands in Bristol that don't get enough exposure and who everyone should experience live. Three top names to see would be:

  • Fake Hand
  • Left Side Brain
  • Cluso
  • - all class acts.
Ooh yeah and X Is Loaded from Bath - we played with them in Cardiff and they were great.

What are your hopes for the band in the near future?
To get signed, to get touring, and to see a big bunch of strangers singing along to our songs: heaven.
