Richard Walters caught by Big Scary Monsters
benmarwood by ben marwood November 29th, 2006

Richard Walters has signed to Oxford label Big Scary Monsters.

The sweet-voiced songsmith, formerly of one-time Shifty Disco signings Theramin, will release his first material for BSM come the February of 2007 when his Pilotlights EP hits the shelves. Recorded partly by David Kosten (Air Traffic, Iain Archer, Bat For Lashes) and in part by ex-Frou Frou member Guy Sigsworth (Björk, Madonna, Lamb), the tracklisting looks a lot like this:

‘Iceskaters’
‘Elephant In The Room’
‘What Weighs Me Down’
‘Garden Song’
‘We Have Your Head’

The Big Scary Monsters themselves said this about the newest member of the roster:

“The way this stranger's delicate voice makes you stop dead in your tracks and the hairs on the back of your neck turn upwards is not too disimilar to the feeling you get when you first fall in love, and that's exactly what this is.”

So there. For anyone interested – and you probably should be – Walters is also part of Monoband with ex-Cranberries man Noel Hogan, and Missing Pieces with ex-22-20's keyboard player Charly Coombes. Fans of CSI:Miami might already be familiar with his song ‘All At Sea’, and if not you can familiarise yourselves with it by clickety-clicking here for Walters’ MySpace. It’s lovely, and makes me think things like “Whatever happened to the Buffseeds?”.
