Extreme change of venue
DiSvsMatt by Mat Hocking June 27th, 2001
The Extreme Festival, which features such superb bands as: Less Than Jake, The Vandals, The Ataris, H20, Voodoo Glow Skulls, 311 and Pitchshifter has unfortunately been denied it's London venue license by the local council. The event which is set to feature the cream of the punk rock crop as well as professional skate/BMX demonstrations & a variety of record and merchandise stalls was all set for the New River Stadium in North London but although many efforts were made the local council refused the application and would not change their minds.

Promoters Straight had secured a second alternative site but due to the licensing laws or 90 days needed for an application this too has fallen through. They were then left with the only alternative to find a decent indoor venue that punk kids can appreciate and are familiar with. The new venue for the London show is now the Brixton Academy where fans will be able to experience an intimate all day show of some of the best pop punk bands around today.

Straight wish to make it clear that they are aware of the problems at this year's Deconstruction festival at the Docklands Arena and are confident that Brixton Academy would be a far more popular choice with the fans. Ian Richards from Straight has said: "We have made every effort to bring you the best bands in the best atmosphere possible. Although we all would have loved an outdoor event, it has not been possible. We hope you enjoy the show."

These are the dates:

Sat 18th August Glasgow SECC

Sun 26th August London Brixton Academy

Mon 27th August Nottingham Wollaton Park

The ticket price will remain at £15 and are available without surcharge with cheques payable to 'Straight': 2 Munro Terrace, London SW10.
