Bowie Fest: Gervais, Arcade Fire, Spree, Deerhoof, Johnston...
sean by Sean Adams March 26th, 2007

That leg-end David Bowie, yeah him from Labyrinth and as seen on Extra's last night, has announced details of his Meltdown-esque NYC festival...

Not content with ruling the past three decades, possibly the greatest popstar of all time, Mister David Bowie (who turned 60 back in January?!) has decided that it was quite fun putting on Meltdown at Royal Festival Hall a few years ago and that this year he'd curate the inaugral High Line Festival in New York, New York. The line-up is, as you'd imagine, rather special. Who wouldn't wanna play a show for Bowie?

This is what he had to say about it on BowieNet:

"I thought it a very cool deal to be asked to curate the High Line Festival. The request was for me to choose artists and acts that I myself would go out of my way to see. Although this inaugural year will be modest in scale we've been pretty lucky in that many whom I asked have accepted.

"I'm also pleased that many emerging artists are participating alongside more established talents that represent a fairly wide cross section of disciplines within the arts community. I would really hope that the exposure this festival affords will help these folk get the attention they deserve."

The High Line Festival looks a little something like this:

May
9th Arcade Fire, Radio City Music Hall
10th Air, Theatre at Madison Square Garden
11th The Polyphonic Spree, Hammerstein Ballroom
15th Deerhoof, Irving Plaza
16th Daniel Johnston, Bang on a Can All Stars, the Legendary Stardust Cowboy @ High Line Ballroom
16th-17th Ken Nordine, The Kitchen
17th-18th Laurie Anderson, High Line Ballroom
19th The Secret Machines, High Line Ballroom
19th Ricky Gervais, Theatre at Madison Square Garden

There is a website for the event but it isn't live yet. highlinefestival.com. Rumblings on a few blogs earlier this year suggested TV on the Radio would be playing but that don't seem to be confirmed. Yet.

DiScuss: Worth jetting off to, non? Who'd you like to see as supports? Favourite bit in Labyrinth? Bow-ey or B-ow-ee?
