Weezer – the Red Album? And other folly
TheBoyDeadly by TheBoyDeadly April 2nd, 2008

Big Weezer news to report, if you haven’t heard already – the new album will be called Weezer. Note the italics.

While there is, however, the possibility that all of the following information is false given that it was posted on Rolling Stone’s website yesterday and yesterday, as idiotic office colleagues no doubt reminded you, was April Fool’s day, we’re going to throw caution to the wind and go wild in the news column.

So, though it bears the rather limp moniker I mentioned beforehand, the band’s new album is apparently being referred to as the ‘Red Album’, following on from Green and Blue, of course.

The first single will apparently be called ‘Pork and Beans’ though that doesn’t tie in with earlier talk which had the new single marked down as one, 12 letter-long word beginning with ‘T’ and ending with ‘R’.

“*tabernacular
i thought it was agreed upon?
”

No, poptimusgrime, ‘Pork and Beans’.

As we say, this could all be false - it wouldn't be the most unlikely thing the band had done - and poptimusgrime may be correct, Pitchfork getting in touch with a publicist from Interscope who said the details above hadn’t been confirmed yet, though a release date of June 17th was confirmed for the Jacknife Lee and Rick Rubin-produced record.

In other news, a new Weezer track called ‘Automatic (LA Riots remix)’ appears on the soundtrack to new computer game Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. It’s sung by drummer Patrick Wilson.
