DiScover

Steel yourselves: new Sheffield DiScover shows announced
dionisio by Rob Webb April 9th, 2008

If this were a forum post, it'd probably be called a jag. But we do enough of that already here. Anyway, you may recall we kicked off DrownedinSound's Sheffield DiScover club at The Harley on Easter Monday last month with live sets from Johnny Foreigner and Fury Of The Headteachers (if not, here's a refresher). The DiS cocktail made its debut, and left a few - a lot - with sore heads the next morning. It was quite a night, and we've more great bands lined up for you lucky Sheffield folk in the next couple of months. Here they are:

First off, on Monday April 21, we've Grammatics (pictured) from Leeds who launch their splendid double A side single 'D.I.L.E.M.M.A.'/'Polar Swelling', with support from equally wonderous local guitar slingers Rotary Ten and Situationists. I could wax lyrical about how great the headliners are all day long, but... oh, okay, some more hype won't hurt: they're the most interesting, exciting and ambitious new band in the country right now. This show's going to be busy, we reckon, so get down nice and early. There's an event listing here, and you'll find further details somewhere down the bottom. See you there!

Then in May (Monday 26, to be precise), we've something a little bit exotic. All the way from Brooklyn, New York, fresh from an appearance at DiS' Great Escape showcase, we're delighted to present Telepathe. They've just recorded their album with Dave 'absolute genius' Sitek, played some eminently memorable SXSW shows, and generally have tongues wagging all over the place. Expect something a little bit different. Supporting we have local electro-poppers Darlings Of The Splitscreen, the wonderfully named Pygmy Globetrotters and Urgent Talk, the new project from former Heart Yeah mentalists Warren Myles and Jack Fabian. The stuff we've heard suggests very good things indeed. What's that you say? An event listing? But of course.

Here's the science bit. And, yes, I am going to say that every month.

April 21
Grammatics (Myspace)/(Website)
Rotary Ten (Myspace)
Situationists (Myspace)
Plus Dance To The Radio DJs

May 26
Telepathe (Myspace)
Darlings Of The Splitscreen (Myspace)
Pygmy Globetrotters (Myspace)
Urgent Talk (Myspace)
Plus Children For Breakfast DJs

DiS DJs will also be manning the decks at both, the DiSmeister cocktail will be well and truly flowing (at the bargain price of £1.60 too) and we'll be bringing out the SNES once again, sort of like bringing out the gimp... only not as much of a threat to the rectum. Ahem.

Both shows are at The Harley, 334 Glossop Road, Sheffield (map) and run from 8pm-1am. Entry is an inconsequential one of your English pounds. Yes, £1. Bargain? Bargain.
