Girl Talk to 'do a Radiohead’
TheBoyDeadly by TheBoyDeadly June 9th, 2008

The headline – DrownedinSound is sure someone’s totting these up somewhere and will take a year or so off of our lives for each lazy tap-tap on the keyboard, but this is Girl Talk so, with a glass raised to instant gratification, Pittsburgh resident Greg Gillis is planning to ‘do a Radiohead’ with forthcoming album Feed the Animals.

The utterly non-discriminate, Hitler-remixing producer and mashup jockey will proffer the record – which features over 300 samples in its 55 minutes – with a blank price tag via the website of his Illegal Art label imminently, if the promise of a late spring/early summer release noted here still stands.

"This project has always been about embracing pop," Gillis told Billboard of the album, which will be available physically at a later date. "I feel like the source material on this record has more in-your-face classics. Because of that, it's more over the top.”

More over the top? As you might expect, Gillis has had to work hard to make that happen, tailoring Feed the Animals to the live set he’s developed over the last two years.

"For the final editing process, I probably worked eight hours a day, Monday through Friday, for about 3 months," he added. "I worked very hard to make it sound like I didn't work hard."

Gillis will be sharing sweat with buoyant bodies at the following locations this summer, before embarking upon a headline tour proper in the autumn.
