It's 'Now Or Ever' for The Relatives
oappleby by Ollie Appleby June 13th, 2002
Scouse screamers The Relatives will be showcasing tracks from forthcoming debut album 'Now Or Ever' with an appearance at Camden's Barfly on Friday 14th June. Record releases to follow....

Now on the verge of their second single release with 'Everybody's Cynical' set to hit the shops in a months time on 15th July, The Rellies (they are Scousers remember) are set to begin their third major U.K. tour, starting with their Barfly appearance tomorrow, onstage at 8.15.

'Everybody's Cynical' is the second song to be taken from the band's debut album, 'Now Or Ever', which is set to hit the streets "screaming with riffage and gashfilth glory" on July 29th. Recorded by Manic Street Preachers/Cosmic Rough Riders/Cooper Temple Clause deskdriver Greg Haver, the twelve track debut will set The Relatives soaring ever closer to the sun.

The full tracklisting is as follows - quotes and creative insights by Chris Relative.

1. 'Everybody's Cynical' - "The current single, a three and a half minute Rock Bastard and a storming and severe slice of crashzoom creativity that fizzes, flies and smacks at the listener's teeth - from the inside. Well, Goddamn!"
2. 'Big Soles (For A Little Guy)' - "a song about the forever growing drug being used throughout our Great British Isles; the mysterious warming benevolence of little white pills and their unbelievable ability to mess up ya' head."
3. 'Bite On The Hook' - "A girly love song about, funnily enough, a beautiful gurl who brought hope to someone who had lost it. aaah now, isn't that lovely?"
4. 'Now Or Ever' - "A song to a mate having a bad time - a kick up the ass - get yourself sorted out and make it happen."
5. 'Bowl Me Over' - "Going away with a load of mates, burning yourself out and having far too much fun."
6. '15 Minute Drive' - " Get out of bed. Smoke. 24 hour garage. Munchies. Busted by Cops."
7. 'Kane' - "Other people with other agendas. Learning from it and dealing with it."
8. 'Menace' - "Fucking off your mates in anger then them doing it back to you, realising you've been a dick and wallowing in self-pity."
9. 'Advocate' - "Government, military, powerlessness etc etc. 'nuff said."
10. 'Trevor's Influence' - "No apologies for this, an old teacher whose enthusiasm and love for music got me into what I'm doing at the moment. Top man."
11. 'TripleX Sun' - "The Tony Platt (AC/DC / Motorhead) mixed debut single, TripleX Sun blasts glissando magic and guttur -gleam melody to the bonehearted and spiceless world; a tremble-knee tale of salacious submission and sublime sexswirl, wrapped with munificent magic in a 2 minute 40 blast that delivers with the aggressive authority of a spiteful Italian dominatrix."
12. 'Miss Collector' "Miss Collector is about a state of mind, being emotionless. Miss Collector is like a sort of cleaner who comes and takes away the thoughts in your head, leaving you blank and in wonder of your surroundings - an affair that leaves you empty."

'Now Or Ever' (SPANKCD03) is released on the nascent Toxteth label, Spank Records and is distributed in the UK by Shellshock.
