Have Band, Green Man? Bands offered chance to open up festival
JoeDiddly by Luke Slater June 9th, 2009

Democracy! Green Man Festival are offering the chance for a band - any band - to open up the festival this year. A sort of glorified Battle Of The Bands for Web 2.0. Perhaps a little bit like 'Road to V' but also infinitely better.

The competition, Green Poll, is the usual sort of format for such things. All you have to do is register your band on the website, upload a YouTube or MySpace video of you/your band playing a song before June 29, which is when the first round of voting closes.

As the website itself says: REGISTER YOUR BAND + GET VOTES = PLAY GREEN MAN.

If you win, you could be sharing a bill with the likes of Animal Collective, Jarvis, Bon Iver, Andrew Bird, Pagan 'Warrior' Wanderer Lu and about 4,000 brilliant others and, heck, maybe even your own indie idols.

Green Man takes place from 21-23 August in the Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales. More information here.

Voting closes for round one at midnight on June 28 and the top 20 bands with the most votes go through to round two. Voting closes for round two at midnight on July 12 and the top 6 bands with the most votes go through to the Grand Final, which is a live 'Battle Of The Bands' style do in London on July 23. One winner is picked to open the festival by a panel of music industry types (god help you all).

Here's just one of this year's entrants. See what you're up against, guys and gals.

We've also knocked together a small Green Man themed Spotify playlist for your listening pleasure.

Early tips for DiSers' bands? Paul Hawkins And Thee Awkward Silences? Internet Forever? Any more suggestions?
