You're So Grate: Graham Coxon talks about eating cheese in the nude with Blur
JoeDiddly by Luke Slater April 14th, 2010

It's not that often that three of our favourite 1,000 things in the world, cheese (no. 5), nudity (no. 23) and Graham Coxon (no. 783) are combined. Of course, the good stuff is more commonly associated with Graham's bandmate Alex, who produces his own. This will all become clear and linked in due course.

In an interview with Edith Bowman, to be broadcast by Channel 4 on Thursday night at 12:05 (presumably Friday morn' by then...) as part of their Evo Music Rooms he talks about many things, including his new material. The most interesting part, however, comes from this little exchange. We've got a transcription of it below. Verbatim.

Edith – Was there a moment for you that stands out that will almost sum up, if you have to sum up, that year in a moment?

Graham – I think when we did Goldsmiths University that was really great because Alex had bought loads of his cheese and he was sorting us out a bit of Ryvita, some of his cheese, a walnut and a little bit of honey. It was so hot at that gig that we all nearly keeled over and so we were all sat in the nude in our little dressing room eating cheese. Its not very nice, but semi-nude! We had towels and stuff!

Edith – That is a beautiful image...

Graham – That was good because that was kind of like the old days when you’d be sweating and exhausted and in the company of naked men!

Edith – Just not eating Alex’s cheese!

Graham – Yes the cheese was the extra bit!

What we all want to know is whether the more sweat was produced by the cheese or the men. Eh? Eh?! Coxon also talks fondly about the last year of Blur reunion related events, new material that he's recording and also how frustrated he gets with the recording process in general. I'm sure the programme will be repeated on 4OD if you can't be bothered to stay up after Question Time or whatever else is on at that hour of day.
