Yo La Tengo to release remix 'EP' ft. RJD2, De La Soul + more
JoeDiddly by Luke Slater April 22nd, 2010

Was album opener 'Here To Fall' your favourite 'cut' from Yo La Tengo's most recent long player Popular Songs? If it was, you are in for a right proper treat. Potentially. The track will be remixed by such luminaries as RJD2, Pete Rock and masters of a remix or two themselves De La Soul, who have now collaborated with approximately 78% of artists and bands currently still active. Impressive stuff. This remix EP will be released in early June, sometime.

Without wishing to completely nick stuff from the press release, I feel it'll do a much better job of describing the reworkings contained on it than I ever could, having not actually heard any of them.

Maseo from De La Soul strips the song to its core only to add driving guitars and a heavy groove. RJD2's take is as cool and atmospheric as you'd expect. It is the EP's closer that truly takes the song to the next level - Pete Rock's remix is dusky, minimal, abstract and hypnotic - carving the song down to the discrete elements of the human relationship, then dropping a verse about Yo La Tengo themselves - in a word, awesome.

Awesome? We hope so. Here's what the cover art looks like:

Look not much further to reacquaint yourself with the original track:
