Win! Submit your Summer snaps to The Concretes and get a camera
JoeDiddly by Luke Slater June 23rd, 2011

Swedish indie-pop stars The Concretes want you to take some photos. Not just any old photos. Tuesday this week marked midsummer and also the official start of the Summer season. This is good news. Now the band are offering some prizes for the best summer snaps, sent into their website for the competition. The details are on there, but to sum up - send in your summer photo, and each month a winner will be picked. Simple.

It's more than just a competition, though.

What you can win is this camera, which is a Panasonic Lumix TZ10 Digital Camera in Black, to be more specific. In addition to that there will be a few Concretes goodies, too.

Frontwoman Lisa Milberg wrote a bit about it for us:

"I'm a big fan of pictures, always have been. Aren't we all.

Most things in my life boil down to pictures. Some I've taken myself of course and keep in boxes for when I wanna see them again. Others, by others, I come back to often, when I run out of ideas, when I need to reset my mind and tilt my head a little. (Gallela, Szabo, Eggleston, Weber, Scavullo, Avedon, Bourdin, Sherman, Goldin and so forth, forever).

Others again exist only in my mind. They appear out of nowhere when I hear a song, recognise a smell or am told a story. Like that about a woman who was so madly in love that her house burnt to the ground. Pictures in your mind right?

And yes, every picture tells a story and every story tells of a picture, but better still, pictures make me feel things. They make me feel less homesick, better, stronger, more inspired. Or more away-sick, smaller and less significant.

But they do things to me and it's a feeling I can't imagine living without.

This winter we just had in Sweden is the worst winter I have ever experienced. It came with a darkness I have not encountered before and nights seemed to intertwine with one another, with not as much as a whisper of a day in between.

This is when and why WYWH.co was born. We needed a place we could go to and have pictures do stuff with/to us. Take us away from our terrible corners of the world. Remind us of what was or what could be.

And out of all the pictures that make me feel things, none did it better than these. I can't explain why. It might be they are not hiding between fancy binders in my bookshelves. They haven't (yet) stunned a million eyes. They could be my own but they are not. They made me feel like we were all on the same page, turning our backs on that winter together.

I don't know. I just know they made me feel things. And I want to thank you all for participating. It meant the world. xx"

Oh, and here's the new video for 'My Ways', which is wonderful and can be viewed below.
