For those who didnt know, Snug sounded like Weezer doing Beach Boys but in a english suburban pop manner. Anyway, Brian Wilson did a song called ‘Still I Dream Of It’ and Eds only gone and covered it. It aint one of Bri's best known, infact, it originally appeared on the Don Was produced documentary soundtrack ‘I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times’ (hey, it was on the press release, stop calling me a nerd!).
Ed said this of Brian Wilson’s cracked and heartrending vocal on the original:
“I thought, if I try to sing it that way, there’s no way I can. The guy was probably on drugs and fat and in a mau-mau and probably sitting in a sandpit.
It’s one of my favourite songs ever, which is why I wanted to do it. I don’t normally do covers. Actually, I’ve done ‘I’m So Tired’ by The Beatles, Kylie’s ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ and ‘Lonely Girls’ by Lucinda Williams for radio shows, but this is the first I’ve recorded properly.
Leo, who’s a bit of a genius, wrote the string arrangement on a bus on the way to a festival in Sweden. I wanted my version to start with a sort of Burt Bacharach / Scott Walker feel, then it developed a Velvet Underground kind of feeling towards the end. I just had a really good time recording it. Along with Tom Waits, Brian Wilson is my god.”
Ed has also got us a brand new song called ‘The Ghost's Parade’, which those cats at Heavenly wanna release on October 28th with the cover. Fancy that. But its a special limited edition to 3000, numbered single.
Also, Ed will be performing his orchard of cherry red cheeked songs, live, as special guest to label mate, Beth Orton. The remaining dates for that tour are thus:

More news on the return of the sweet lil scamp as we get it. Anyones who's not got his previous albums (there's a mini album aswell as 'Here Be Monsters'), its going for under a tenner in most of the October sales in the big name chains, if you aint got it, get it. Heres my review
