Swearing At Motorists call out The White Stripes
oappleby by Ollie Appleby October 21st, 2002
Dave Doughman, the main man behind Sweaing At Motorists, officially challenges The White Stripes to a ROCK FIGHT - 2 bands, 1 stage and 1 applause meter, anytime, anywhere.

Rock duos are not a novel thing but the popularity of The White Stripes has drawn a lot of attention to them lately and there are (so he says) "concerns amongst the musical duo community" that Jack and Meg are not, you know, representing.

"Honestly, I've never heard their records, but I have seen them live.... The Stripes are a good band, I'm not challenging that... It's just that Mojo magazine declared them "the Greatest Live Band In The World" on the cover of a recent issue, and I want a chance to prove that statement false."

When asked if simply trying to siphon, leach or otherwise suck off the hype around The White Stripes for his own band, Dave Doughman replied "Abso-fuckin-lutely! Fans have told me that The Motorists would blow The White Stripes off the stage and after seeing them perform, I agree. Now I want a chance to prove it, that's all"

With The White Stripes being called out to step up to the challenge, Swearing At Motorists have managed to sort out plenty of opportunities on their forthcoming UK and Ireland tour, details below...

November

7th - London Scala (with Girls vs Boys)
8th - Nottingham Boat Club (with Girls vs Boys)
9th - Glasgow King Tuts (with Girls vs Boys)
10th - Leeds Cockpit
11th - Dublin Whelans
12th - Cork The Triskel Arts Centre
13th - Limerick TBA
15th - Cambridge The Ferryboat
17th - Brighton Palmers Bar
18th - Oxford Point
19th - Liverpool Barfly
20th - Manchester Tmesis Bar
21st - Sheffield Barfly
22nd - London Barfly
23rd - Leicester Charlotte

Don't hold your breath tho, there are some claims that The White Stripes have a 'clause in their contract' that says they won't play on a bill with any other duos... scared of The Motorists?
