Elliott Smith: Not One But Two Albums.
sean by Sean Adams January 17th, 2003
More chaos in the land of Elliott Smith album number six..

According to reports around the intranet, the forthcoming album from folk-pop-god Elliott Smith, 'From a Basement on the Hill' is no longer being released (as previously reported) but it'll now be a double cd, apparently via Dreamworks, this summer.

This news comes from the benefit show (for a free needle exchange program aimed at preventing the spread of AIDS and hepatitis among intravenous drug users) in L.A. @ Spaceland, where he made a space-between-songs announcement about the follow up to 2000's 'Figure 8'. The live set he played included the following new tracks: "Memory Lane", "Passing Feeling", "Shooting Star", "Strung Out Again", "A Distorted Reality Is a Necessity to Be Free," and "Fond Farewell" - probably available online, somewhere or other.

However, this double cd is likely to be a normal cd with a bonus CD (according to fansite sweetadeline.net) because Dreamworks had rejected his "dark home recordings" (aka 'From a Basement on the Hill'), which his Management then tried to get released elsewhere. This don't seem to have happened. But it's rather likely (going on common sense grounds) that the bonus cd will be parts of this album, if not all of it and tracks will emerge as b-sides and wot-not, if not.

If you are lucky enough to live in NY or LA, or can afford the trip across the pond (wish i could!! anyone want to sponsor me??) you can catch Elliott on the following dates:
Jan 24th + 25th @ New York Bowery Ballrooom
Jan 31st + Feb 2nd @ Los Angeles Henry Fonda Theater

DiScuss: Did you or do you know anyone who saw the benefit show? Are there any bootleg mp3s about? When on earth will Mr.Smith make it over to the UK? What's the cheapest flight I can get to New York?
