Punk rock mecca CBGBs is set to finally close after months of legal wrangling on September 30th. After that, it's to Vegas; where it will join the other trashy replicas in an orgy of neon post-modernism. Or something.
The venue played host to seminal New Yoik acts like The Ramones, Blondie and Richard Hell's Voidoids in its 30 years of business.
Soaring rent costs in the city are to blame for the club's demise, according to CBGB's founder Hilly Kristal.
"I am taking the bars with me, I am taking the stage - I'm taking the urinal that Joey(Ramone) pissed in with me." Despite the imminent threat of hepatitis, he continued: "I'm going to take a lot of things - anything that makes this place CBGBs."
Bands that brought the venue worldwide fame are expected to feature among the acts of its last ever show schedule.
