Chromeo

Bonafied Lovin

Label: Back Yard Recordings Release Date: 12/11/2007

28817
Mike_Diver by Mike Diver November 12th, 2007

It’s so easy to be so serious: go to a London indie club – any London indie club – of a night and you’ll see these lost souls, stood to the dancefloor’s side, arms crossed, looking like they’re at a wake. (Actually, given what’s usually on rotation at your typical indie club, perhaps their outward mood is entirely appropriate.) Anyway, these kids, they need some Chromeo, stat.

There’s no cryptic crap to cut through here, as lyricist Dave 1 makes his intentions translucently clear from the get-go: “I’ll give you bonafied lovin’… the type that makes me feel old”. Old? That seems to be what he’s saying, anyway; the message being that, baby, your current fella’s a loser while I’m a real man, and he just can’t compete. What you need is an older guy, and I am that guy. Let’s go…

Cheeky, tasteless, just a little bit rude, and set to the kind of awesomely toe-twitching backbeat that the New Power Generation should have trademarked way back when to prevent the likes of Chromeo reminding too-cool indie dorks where their dancing feet are. Frankly, this demands one of those stupid ‘choon’ placards, if such a thing can be recovered from your local car-boot. Retrogression has rarely felt so saucy.

‘Bonafied Lovin’’_ comes with a selection of choice remixes, too. Banging…_

Video… Dire Straits, much?
