That Darn Punk

Label: Kung Fu Records Release Date: 08/03/2001

jbenwell by James Benwell March 8th, 2001

Released as soundtrack to the film “That Darn Punk”, this compilation boasts tracks from some of the biggest names in punk at the moment. Lagwagon appear with the brilliantly catchy “After You My Friend”, possibly the best song on their latest album “Let’s Talk About Feelings”. Cult ska-punkers Rancid donate their rocketing track “GGF” which highlights exactly why people love this band so much. Elsewhere we find three tracks from Orange County legends THE VANDALS (including the film’s theme music and a duet with popster Katalina). Their new song “Right On Q” is the best thing they’ve done in ages, showing the fact that even now they can write the most amazing, fast paced punk songs. Other big names include Pennywise, Nerf Herder, AFI and the Ataris.

The album also includes less well known bands such as the Assorted Jellybeans and Kung Fu’s latest signings OZMA and M16. OZMA especially sound awesome and are definitely a band to look out for in the future.

All in all, this is one of the best compilations available on the market. There’s not only classic tracks from some of America’s finest but also tracks showcasing the talent of up and coming bands. It’s a must have really!

The film “That Darn Punk” is available to buy from Kung Fu Films
