Dark Lotus

Tales From The Lotus Pod

Label: Psychopathic Records Release Date: 13/07/2001

mmarsh by Mark Marsh July 21st, 2001

For those who think Slipknot's 'Iowa' or Slayer's latest disc are delayed, you should of tried waiting for this release. Over a year and a bit since it was first mentioned it's finally here.

To the uninitiated Dark Lotus is basically **ICP,Twiztid,Blaze Ya Dead Homie and Marz all in one group at their horrorcore best.

I can guarantee this will be the only horrorcore release (apart from maybe some Esham) you might find in your local record shop and Dark Lotus have taken note of this fact and made this record one of the best records in the genre to date. What this translates to is a record not for the faint hearted, so indie kids and pop-rap fans need not apply as made clear with tracks names such as 'Cripple And Rape Me', Taste Of Blood and I Hurt Myself, although the track names are nothing compared to the content.

Possibly the only track on offer that fails to keep up the high standards of the others is Black Magic, which verges on contemporary rap as it employs backwards verses and forgets to follow the standard verse/hook/verse format. Granted it's not a bad track but it's inclusion breaks the flow and pace of a great album.

Take this album how you want although Dark Lotus don't care how the mainstream take it as they chant
"mass murder makes me happy / dead bodies make me happy / say what you will of me / I'll always have Juggalo family"
. Or to put it in layman terms "fxck what you think as long as the fans like it". Now if only more bands thought that instead of churning out endless commercial pap.

Yes the censors and numerous religious groups will condemn this but who cares, it's great!
