Matt Harding

Tomorrow

Label: Moshi Moshi Music

2409
rcowling by Ralph Cowling September 25th, 2002

This is some seriously delicious background music to have on! Staying in with *Matt Harding *is like talking to someone who’s really down to earth. There’s nothing to prove here on this lo-fi easy beat scattered gem. The super electro-organ streams in ‘231’ _let you know that the album is a fuzzy and loveable cushion to the ear, the ‘blankey’ of modern music can be found in _‘Tomorrow’.

*"_It’s much more pleasant than everything else I’ve heard you listening to recently_" *comments my dad, too right as well. This album is remarkably ‘pleasant’. Though, ironically, this is also the downfall of the record. As it’s preoccupied with such pleasantries, as much as it is ear candy, it will never surmount the classification of ‘background music’ in your collection. Though this said, inherent to it’s quiet roots, it’ll get a lot of play-time, as no one really notices it, though they might notice a tinge of happiness and start smiling, as if a feel good vibe was subliminally integrated to the music.

The track _‘Doesn’t Matter’ _allows some seriously easy going vocal commentary "you're rich but you’re beautiful somehow", sweetly guided introspection lets you drift off into sunny lakeside feelings, pensively thinking up seratonin observations.

Another thing about this album, it’s bloody addictive. You might not realise it at first, but there’s a high chance of multiple-plays of this, growing ever tender to the listener, it ingratiates itself to you by making you happy. Though if you’ve got work on, forget it, use only as a pause from the stresses of the working world, and for students - a perfect revision break.

Finally, watch out for the track _‘In Another Room’ _- a beautifully composed and yet seemingly simplistic duo of acoustic guitar strums gently flow from the speakers and bring staggeringly gorgeous melodies out. A real ‘sitting around with friends on a sunny afternoon’ album, a must for all lo-fi beat fans. Thanks for the good times Matt…
