This Day Forward

In Response

Label: Equal Vision Release Date: 13/10/2003

Oh joy. Another emo-metal-core band to come brighten my day with some, like, _real _emotion and passion and, like, sincerity coming... beats chest ... from the heart, man.

yawn

OK, let’s hear you then. Thing is, with any style of music that has spawned a plethora of acts eager to emulate the energy and excitement they experienced when they first saw their new-found heroes (in this case we’ll say Glassjaw**), no matter what their technical ability or their musical prowess, once things start getting a bit predictable you immediately switch off.

Which is a shame really, because *This Day Forward *are essentially a pretty good band. Evidently fired up on all things heavy and full throttle they’re a band that play on the melodies being hurtled at you, their sashayed dynamics swaying on a breeze of high-decibel sonic pounding that’ll have you fighting over whether to fully rock out or stand in marvel at the way vocalist Mike Shaw doesn’t necessarily rely on your typical scream-soaked anger for a powerful performance.

Considering the long line of clones rising up in Glassjaw’s wake, This Day Forward are a worthy successor to their vacated throne, the overall mood of _‘In Response’ _fluctuating from track to track. From the angular swooping of the opening tracks to the luscious melodies of _‘A Fragile Version’ _and the dreamy Deftones-esque interlude _’Euphio Question’, _This Day Forward are making a conscious effort to evolve this style in a way I very much prefer to the likes of Finch.

This is energised emo-core that doesn’t compromise melody over aggression. And despite my intro, these guys are worth checking out.
