Every A&R scout spends hours of their day routing through truckloads of shit demos just to discover a band like Curerbell. ‘Waiting For The World’ is quite simply a breath of crisp fresh air, so much so that it’s actually difficult to believe that you’re not listening to a commercial release.

The title track and ‘There’s a Fire’ are the best of the bunch, showing a tougher edge to the band and allowing them to rock out more. There are echoes of fallen indie nippers Thirteen:13 in the winsome vocals of frontman Kevin Jones, however the music has a grittier, more melancholic edge to it. The remaining tracks (‘Origami’ and ‘I Could Cry’) are world weary ballads which betray their influences – Kent and Coldplay are obvious reference points – without ever obviously fleecing from them. There are even a couple of cute lyrical nods to Catatonia and Ben E King’s classic ‘Stand By Me’ thrown in for good measure.

With a decent budget behind them, Curerbell could be fighting it out with bands like Haven and Electric Soft Parade in the indie rock championship. Their time in the spotlight is surely just around the corner.
