Judging by the rough and ready nature of the raucous four track ‘Home’, Northampton three piece The Idiot Boy – Tony, Jimmy & Owen – believe less is more and up to a point they’re right.

There’s no window-dressing here; just three blokes playing simple yet heartfelt songs with good old fashioned sentiments about love, pain, loss, and longing. It’s wholesome stuff - if a little unadventurous - but the urgent ‘The Acid Test’ and the rousing ‘Fade Out’ hints at The Idiot Boy’s potential.

‘The Acid Test’, clocking in at a near epic six minutes, with better production and a harder hitting ending could be The Idiot Boy’s proper rock anthem. ‘Fade Out’ is a wonderfully cheesy soft rock moment which demands lighter waving action and then some.

Not groundbreaking then but still rather wonderful. With tighter production ‘Home’ would be a winner and one feels the best is yet to come from The Idiot Boy. One to keep an eye on for sure.
