Trap2

Sheffield Sky EP

Label: Release Date: 25/06/2004

Mike_Diver by Mike Diver June 25th, 2004

I'd be lying if I said Trap2 were my thing. You know me well enough by now to realise that there's no way I'd have anything complimentary to say about a band who've earned comparisons elsewhere to The Stone Roses, The Verve and The Charlatans. Only, I can't help myself; this is good, really.

It's nothing new, granted - the keyboard swirls and lazy vocal delivery echo all of the above bands and dozens more beside - but there's soul here, passion, and, most importantly of all, genuine talent. Whether they'll ever make sizeable waves outside of their native Sheffield remains to be seen but this demo should, at least, get a few label ears twitching. It lasted the distance on its first play at mine and if I can tolerate it, others are going to love it.

Just one thing: Trap2 is a fucking terrible name. Please, and this goes out to all new bands out there, never use numbers in your name. Unless you're Sum 41, who rock, obviously. And 28 Days. And Breed 77. And Hanger 17. Oh, no, wait...
