Lolita Storm

Girls Fucking Shit Up

Label: Digital Hardcore Recordings

cowen by Chris Owen May 25th, 2002

A mixture of fetish feminism, drugs, violent sex and C-list celebrity hatred, the concepts behind Girls Fucking Shit Up are pretty evident simply through looking at the titles of the songs. That would be such classics as You make me High (When you go down Low), I Luv Daddy ("He's so sexy he looks like me!"), and the more-popular-then-you'd-think stalker fantasy of Anthea Turner's Tears. This is Lolita Storm, Digital Hardcore's answer to a girl band, Alec Empire's vision of the Spice Girls, and about as far away from Godspeed you Black Emperor as you can get.

Comprising of one guy on keyboards and 3 female vocalists, the resulting "music" is a mixture of ra-ra-ra shouting under drum'n'bass/industrial/techno noise and feedback, with the occasional sample that treads the line between the kitsch and the disturbing. If you took Atari Teenage Riot out of the world of revolutionary politics and gave them a job in Safeways, then you'd get an idea. All the harsh vitriol is there, but instead of being channelled through Revolution Action it helps fuel nihilistic hedonism, violent relationships, anything to get out of the boredom of British life.

"And I was resigned to this energy loss till I shoved sulphate up my nostril" they jeer on I Luv Speed, and you cant really blame them. The monotone nature of the singing and the nursery rhyme black comedy lyrics help add to a general feeling of crude malevolence throughout this album, where domestic violence, nymphomania and suburban banality are delivered with the same cheering and noise. You'll most probably hate this album, but that doesn't really matter.

Lolita Storm's follow up EP Sick Slits is far more musically diverse and competent, and by comparison this album of two minute wonders is pretty poor. It'll piss off your parents, your friends, help alienate you at parties and probably get to you. But hey, its more punk then the Sex Pistols.

"_And Dirty looks I'll give her And hateful words deliver And when I've finished with her I'll have made a river appear Of Anthea Turner's tears Cry your tears, Princess tippy-toes_"
