The Living End

Roll On

Label: WEA Release Date: 02/04/2001

sean by Sean Adams April 3rd, 2001

Punk in 2001? Surely not! That whole thing was dead 20 years ago wasn’t it? I mean, there’s nothing wrong with the world today...

If you have ever ranted down someones throat for saying that, stick with us. If you’ve ever said that; be afraid, be very, very afraid! Here is the sound of anger. This is the sound of The Living End: Riffs that resemble tried and tested pop hooks but with a selflessly sexy, dirty edge. Drums which sound like bombs deploying upon an unsuspecting world. The vocals..mmmmmm..mmmm.mm...this is what tips this single over the edge. Not many people can sound this nasally, this honest and this good. There are extra backing roll on's from members of Bodyjar, Shihad and Weta. The style of the delivery is all good. The content however – Yes! Yes! YES! This is what rebellious lil scallywags like me have been waiting for since the last TLE album. These lyrics crawl inside the mundane surrealities where millions of people live to work and work to live and that is all that matters. Do they question the ethics of it? Ha! Half of them would rather exploit small children in ‘some other country’ and would not discourage the bottling of their sweat if it meant extra profits, therefore cheaper trainers! Whilst the other half get excited about a new smelly energy drink.

Yes “we’ll roll on with our heads held high; our conscious in the gutter our dreams up in the sky” but the ‘we’ doesn’t include everyone. It shouldn’t include anyone. We can’t wait until 2077!! RECLAIM THE STREETS! Get out the banners. Tear down McD**s’! Unleash people’s minds! It’s your duty as a soldier against the mansion-loving, powerful, 10 chinned big boys of the world.

Your freedom is at stake. Your future is yours for the taking. You can do it. You can. You can. You can-can. Dance if you want to. Sing along as loud as you want too. But for gawds sake listen! This is no laughing matter. This is for every single one of you! Take it, share it, it is all yours!
