If there is another link, please write in… 1 Giant Leap is a new project, rather than an act, formed by Jamie Catto formerly of Faithless with artist, producer and musician Duncan Bridgeman plus a whole sky full of stars. The names alone speak like a transnational advertising campaign, which may not be a bad thing if you take a second to see the positivity they're doing @ 1giantleap.tv

The first thing that stands out(that is a bad pun, sorry!) of ‘Braided Hair’ is the juice of funk and carefully carefree pop, it looms like the smell spilt of Malibu at a party and sticks just as much - even Nemone on Radio 1 agree's with me. This is the kind of pop you can hum, click and clap to. Pop that you can dance to at the start of a night out. Pop that you can chuck on in the background for a little bit of inspiration via lyrical imagery to take your mind on a voyage through the metaphors of hair and destiny. This is pop like pop should and used to be.

Speech adds his renowned twist and spice with pictures from his prose dancing out of the speakers in grassskirts and sarongs. Neneh’s soothing to hear vocals, bubble away like a fountain in background, combines in the chorus and changes the mood of the track to a even happier, even more relaxed one where she takes over the lead before an African choir take over.

On the surface of it, this song is as simple as braiding hair with it’s little beeps, beats and the odd guitar strum. Yet this is a track that allows cultures or economically divided worlds to come together with street cool in the breeze of the country. It's not hard to see where this is leading...

Simple, subtle and a sense of something big to come. I wish all warnings could make me smile like this.
