Mondo

i=aM+U

Label: Mud Hut Release Date: 30/07/2001

jkimmitt by James Kimmitt July 26th, 2001

So, you want to post-rock but you want to have tunes and bit of style ?

You like your music to be experimental but you don't wanna have to listen to radiator noises passing themselves off as records ?

Yeah, you want music to appreciate artistically but you also wanna burst every blood vessel in your brain from banging yer head to it ? Yeah ?

Well, here is a record that might just start to fulfill your every desire. This is the sound of Six by Seven napalming a folk-festival. Its ear-piercing combination of Trail of Dead dynamics and early-Verve could be the perfect soundtrack to Conrad Keely burning Lee Gorton and Damon Gough at the stake.

Quite genuinely, the potential on display here is utterly staggering only hindered by whichever fuckwit produced this and tried to remove all the rough edges. C'mon, it's the rough edges that make atom bombs of records like this as fucking explosive as they are. Mondo are superb but give them room to breathe.

If we stick Mondo in a garage with cheap amps they'll not only shit all over prematurely middle-aged NAM revering fuckwits who's record collection spans Greensleeves (it's the lute, y'see) and Bob Dylan, they'll kill them and piss on their grave before digging up their lifeless corpses, eating them, shitting them out and torching the fuckers, lest they should attempt a comeback somewhere down the line.

But let's not expect too much too soon. If you want your mind blown but you wanna sing along at the same time then Mondo might just be able to rock your world. And you should let them.
