Leaves

Breathe

Label: Release Date: 21/01/2002

1229
iforrester by Iain Forrester January 26th, 2002

The newest import from that great musical land Iceland, Leaves, like Sigur Ros and Bjork, play slow-moving, delicate music, which will no doubt get called 'glacial' somewhere.

Breathe, however, is a slightly easier prospect to get into than either of them, with the words sung in plain English and no electronic or otherwise strange tendencies, and is a less ambitious 4 minutes long. It passed me by on the first couple of listens, but there is enough gentle beauty in its piano line and gradual build-up to suggest the band have a lot of potential and its understatement is a refreshing change from some of the more over-the-top British indie acts.
