Miss Black America

Infinite Chinese Box

Label: Integrity Records Release Date: 25/02/2002

sean by Sean Adams February 24th, 2002

I’m sure by now you’re sick of reading about Miss Black America on Drownedinsound, we might as well call it DrownedinMBA some weeks – well we did sponsor their tour last November..

This is their first release since signing to Integrity Records. The single (as seen on Mtv2) ’Infinite Chinese Box’ is the one in their set with the big blaring riff that sounds like space invaders shooting lasers towards a anarchy cyclone. Red beams fire and buzz until all that is left is a natural calm, involving one band and one iconic frontman, standing alone, showing the whites of their eyes, live on tv. With the whole world watching the singer begins beating out statements, vocalising his discontent about each and every member of the trail of (a)pathetic bands and their 'cool' fans bleeding at his feet. The kidz will be united and start chasing and snatching briefcases full of profitable karma weighing down bolding men and women in trouser suits, panting, spewing up GM tv dinners as they run beneath search lights along reclaimed high streets. Come the moment of the revolution this is…

The b-sides are ’Pub Rock Coma’ and ’Scarface’. They’re nearly as good as the quotes on the artwork from Julian Cope and Lester Bangs. You also get info about how to join the anti-nazi league and all the lyrics but sadly no hellraiser style magic box effects... Just buy it, as a kind of redemption when you look back at the records you bought now, in five years time. Come the revolution this is..

This band is only the beginning of it. They don’t want to destroy they want balance. I’m a rock prophet, not a rock critic, I know these things. Trust me - that’s a threat, not a promise.
