This keeps happening this year. Exciting, passionate, vitriolic rock 'n' roll bands keep falling from the sky fully formed. Not that I'm complaining. Mind yer heads, cos here come Span.

Straight outta, er, Oslo, these Norwegian rockers sound at first listen to be off the Strokes, Stripes, Hives conveyor belt. But from the opening shout of "Go!!" to the applause and call of "Alright!" at the end, this single offers us something more. More exciting, more riffed up, more sweary.

"Baby's Come Back" is a frantic rush through the essential elements of punk rock. Lead singer Jarle's cries of "oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck, oh fuck" sound almost revolutionary. The chorus' "Wa-hoo"s are similarly spine-tingling. It’s magic moment, however, comes immediately after the hushed middle eight. After fooling you into the song is over, Span burst back in with another frenzied burst of the chorus. Genius.

Span burst out of your speakers like a breath of fresh air. A band with no pretensions, no hang-ups, no mission statement. Apart from of course, having a good time. On the evidence of "Baby's Come Back", no one's gonna stop 'em.
