The Road Leads Where It's Led

Label: 679 Recordings Release Date: 11/04/2005

8108
carrotrope by Jesus Chigley April 11th, 2005

Michael Stipe said of 'The Road Leads Where It's Led', "It's pure sex."

It's not the sheer enormity of this single that makes it great, neither is it the impressively tight, nervy hydraulic rhythms or Ben Curtis' impassioned wails and spacey keyboard atmospherics. It's the fact that it entirely negates the image of a greased Stipe making love like a sea otter. See? Terrifying.

This is more monolithic indie rock from the three humble Texans in the vein of their 2004 offering 'Now Here Is Nowhere'. An unashamed guitar and drum workout, 'The Road Leads Where It's Led' deftly fits the refrain "Blowing all the other kids away". Huge, mesmerising and very addictive.
