Akira The Don

AAA EP

Label: Something In Construction Release Date: 21/05/2005

Mike_Diver by Mike Diver June 8th, 2005

Don’t judge on colour; don’t judge on upbringing. Judge only on merit, on ability and style, on flow and rhythm, on beats and breaks.

Yeah, right.

Akira The Don (Adam to his mum) once called Wales home, so he raps about it. He once had a mate, ‘Patrick’, who did some bad shit. So he raps about it. He dreams about what the future might be like – only said future is now and he’s talking about responding to fan e-mails (see his website). So he raps about it. He offers shout outs to friend, family, brothers, sisters, pets, whoever… this EP is just him, set to music. Music that isn’t particularly inspired on any of these three tracks, but whatcha gonna do?

(That said, Akira/Adam’s delivery is smooth and precise throughout, and comes off as very natural; Interscope's investment - which he also raps about - may yet prove wise.)

So, white rapper makes so-so record telling all of his past and present over mediocre music, end of. So much for the ground rules.

And, more importantly, sofuckingwhat?
