The Rifles

Repeated Offender

Label: Xtramile Release Date: 06/03/2006

12910
domgourlay by Dom Gourlay April 3rd, 2006

What the world probably never asked for at this moment in time was yet another Mod revival.

Not that you’d see The Rifles swanning about in fishtail parkas and desert boots whilst parking their overloaded-with-bloody-mirrors Vespa outside the local boozer of course. Instead they’re too busy crafting catchy, intelligent pop songs that may sound like they could have been recorded any time between 1966 and 1980 but are all the more timeless for it.

‘Repeated Offender’ isn’t as immediate as their previous releases but still stands head and shoulders above most of the other power-pop beat pretenders currently plying their trade between Carnaby Street, Camden market and the Big Brother house in Elstree.

Original it may not be, but then why should they be lambasted for penning something that screams TUNE in bold capitals, which is surely the whole point as far as creating popular music is concerned, right?
