The Answering Machine

Oklahoma / The Hold Up

Label: High Voltage Sounds Release Date: 16/10/2006

Every so often you hear a song for the first time and immediately it nestles itself inbetween your ears, chugging lumps of synapse from your brain in the process. Well this week that song is 'Oklahoma', and if the earliest incarnation of The Wedding Present started writing music with The Research in a small backroom in Manchester this is what it would have sounded like.

Fun, addictive, poppy, perky, and just as significant in student dorms as it is on club dancefloors.

Its sister track 'The Hold Up' is a more subtle offering than_ 'Oklahoma'_, like the delicate, shy retiring sibling to the latter's more boisterous elder brother.

The main thing here, though, is that whatever it is that turns you on, The Answering Machine seem to have it in abundance.
