ManVersusNature - ManVersusNature

Review by Kate Price

One man, a guitar and a laptop: it’s a bit of a craze at the moment. Pretty much everyone with a PC has announced themselves as the next big thing. And it would seem that, when it’s done badly, it’s very, very bad and when it’s done well, it’s stunning. Southampton based ManVersusNature (aka Eddie Warren), falls into the latter category.»

Kill City, Dead! Dead! Dead!, The Paddingtons at The Joiners, Southampton, Sun 23 Jan

Review by Kate Price

Dead! Dead! Dead! are without a doubt Southampton’s ‘band of the moment’, they’re on the tip of everyone’s tongues, not to mention every second line-up around the city. Fact is, there’s a reason for this, and in case there was doubt left in anyone’s mind, tonight they prove precisely why.»

Fleeing New York at Southampton Talking Heads, Tue 07 Sep

Review by Kate Price

I hate rock ‘n’ roll. I hate the seedy cliché it’s become – the Toni&Guy haircuts, the skinny fit t-shirts and the glamorous crack habits. I hate The Strokes, The Libertines and I long to grab Jonny Borrel and scream into his face "MAKE IT NEW. MAKE IT FUCKING NEW!"»

Span at Southampton The Joiners, Sun 15 Feb

Review by Kate Price

Stacks of airplay on various music television stations has set ablaze under a rocket that has been waiting years to explode; a rocket so packed with adrenaline fuelled kinetic energy that it has the potential to shoot off with a bang that will implode every last eardrum in the country...»

Martin Grech at Southampton The Joiners, Sat 01 Nov

Review by Kate Price

A shock of corkscrew curls bounce wildly, being tossed around by a lost face. Snapshot glimpses reveal the wide eyed stare of twenty-year-old Martin Grech; a skinny post-hallowe’en figure capped with an utterly disproportionate mass of hair and with limbs extended, contorting in over-exaggeration akin to a Parisian street mime-artist.»

Lingering Headrush

In Depth by Kate Price

In the same way that some music can make a person have an uncontrollable urge to dance around, singing along at the top of their voice, some music can lure the mind into a state of depression and melancholy and some can induce anger and aggression, there is a certain section of music (which for me is admittedly scarce) that whisks the human mind off to a completely new and surreal unworldly dimension; music that spins around the head and submerges the listener in a world of pure euphoria and ease; music that momentarily frees the mind of any stress or concerns and cocoons it in thick sheets of pure escapism. Music currently being defined and reshaped by bands such as Mancunian masters in the art of "fucking sounds up", Oceansize.»

"10 years of this sends you crazy!"

In Depth by Kate Price

Over the past couple of years, Less Than Jake have become one of the biggest bands in the world, replacing legendary acts such as Green Day as the bare minimum name in any punk kid’s CD collection and getting themselves a reputation as one of the most insane live acts on earth. Since becoming the main con»

Phat as F*ck!

In Depth by Kate Price

It’s the second day of Leeds festival. The sun is shining, cups of Carling are being glugged with a wince to the aftertaste and Less Than Jake have just taken to the Main Stage behind us. Sitting on the grass in the festival’s seemingly admission via haircut guest area, I’m joined by drummer, Matt Lunn, bassist Thom»
