Oberhofer

Oberhofer began as a lo-fi basement project that was forced out into the big wide world after the house above said basement set on fire, nothing like being homeless to give you the motivation to get off your ass and make a move.

Brad Oberhofer, the man that makes up the entirety of this one-man-band (that’s if you can call him a man just yet as he’s still not quite reached his 20’s) has musical roots that trace back to 5th grade competitive freestyle rapping and classical music training, not two musical stylings that usually go hand in hand but with a voice reminiscent of Animal Collective’s Avey Tare and an accompanying sound that incorporates howling, whistling, clashing cymbals, bells, hand claps and other such jangly noises, it is safe to say that Oberhofer’s music is anything but traditional.

As catchy and accessible as it is unclassifiable, Oberhofer just makes you feel good. It sounds like he’s expressing the kind of happy, life-affirming jitters you get when waiting in line for a roller coaster, or when you win concert tickets on the radio. Ah, youth.

His debut EP, the typographically challenging ‘ooOoooOo’ will be released through Rough Trade and is available for pre-order now. Highly recommended.

Black Manila

Black Manila, formerly Black Manila Beach Parade, are a horror surf 3 piece hailing from South London. Formed in the cold winter of 2008 the band has endured numerous names, styles, line-ups and songs on their journey to become the freaky, psychedelic, beach-punk entity that they are today.

Dead Models

Dead Models are a London 4 piece who manage to cleverly conceal their overcast roots and produce music reminiscent of a sunny California beach party. Led by former members of ‘The Void’ and ‘Junior Victor’, Dead Models is the latest outlet for two prolific writers brought together by their mutual love and passion for 50’s and 60’s style songwriting and melody.
