Jamaica and MOPP. // Glasgow // Fri 29 Oct

rosiejd [Edit] [Delete] 16:05, 19 October '10

As Poney Poney, Antoine Hilaire and Flo Lyonnet were the epitome of 'electrofrench' - a handy shorthand to describe the mash of electro, french house, garage pop, garage rock and the unmistakable air of Euro-cool. Signature tracks When Do You Wanna Stop Working and Cross The Fader were produced by Justice's Xavier de Rosnay. They also knocked out some excellent remixes for Don Rimini, The Teenagers, Headman, and nabbed slots alongside 2manydjs, C.S.S, Sebastian Tellier and Midnight Juggernauts.

They're now called Jamaica; different name, same dance-punk synths, jittery guitars, caffeinated basslines and sexed-down Parisian vocals, still adding up to one huge dose of cool, and significantly endorsed by both the Kitsune and Ed Banger folds - the video for super-fun debut single I Think I Like U 2 is directed by So Me, with Xavier on production, and with remixes from Breakbot and Buffalo Bunch. After an intensive summer of gigs and festivals, and the release of debut album No Problem in August, this gig is part of a European-US tour - including a date with Delphic, The Whip and Fenech Soler at the Warehouse Project in Manchester the following night.

Support comes from Mopp with a full five-piece live show and Death Disco residents Josh Jones and Wavy Graves.
