Lyrically and vocally haunting, Austra produce dense electro in line with contemporaries such as Glasser and Oh Land but on a darker tip; still pop, but shrouded in Nordic mystery. With urgent dark melodies and an army of synthesizers that still can’t quite consume the soaring lead vocals, singer Katie Stelmanis acknowledges her adolescent interest in bands such as Nine Inch Nails and The Knife, whilst still paying homage to the Puccinni, Debussy, Mozart and Bach obsessions of her childhood. Ones to watch.
