After much deliberation, I think that my latest preferred pairing is 'Teatro Grottesco' by Thomas Ligotti (which was first recommended to me on here in the horror novels thread) with 'The Director's Cut' by Fantomas. Have been trying it out this evening and it works like pepper works with salt.
