The Shapes (punk pop Peel faves), ASBO Derek, Bandana Collective. Prince Albert Brighton 12/6/14

spinningchilli [Edit] [Delete] 21:14, 4 June '14

The Shapes (Seymour Bybuss, Brian Helicopter, Tim Jee, Dave Gee and Steve Richards) formed in 1977. They made punk-pop classics, played a lot by John Peel. This summer tour coincides with 'More Songs for Sensible People' released on vinyl by Overground (copies available from the band at gigs) and the facsimile release of their 'Part of The Furniture' EP and 'Airline Disaster'/'Blastoff' on Madrid's Paramecium Records.

'A couple of years after the Pistols raged against the monarchy, unsophisticated provincial herberts such as the Shapes of Leamington Spa were making rather less hifalutin demands. "Not beans again!" yelps the lead singer on Wot's For Lunch Mum?, before suggesting: "How about coq au vin, asparagus and black beans?" ' - Will Hodgkinson, The Times, January 2014

Plus Brighton's best comedy-cabaret band ASBO Derek and folk-punk group, Bandana Collective
